The theme of National Nursing Week, May 12th – 18th, 2025 is: The Power of Nurses to Transform Health!

Celebrating National Nursing Week gives us a chance to reach out and thank the nurses in our lives and who support our province daily in staying healthy.

Instructions: Please take a few moments to write or draw a thank you card that expresses your appreciation for nurses and reflects on the ways you believe nurses help improve health in our communities.

Your card can include:

  • A personal message of gratitude to nurses

  • A drawing that shows nurses in action

  • Reflections on how nurses improve physical, mental, or community health

  • Words that describe the qualities of a nurse (e.g., caring, strong, knowledgeable)

Additional Information to share with your students about nurses, their roles and responsibilities in our communities.

Nurses play a pivotal role in shaping the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities across New Brunswick. Their impact extends far beyond bedside care—they are leaders, educators, advocates, and innovators who drive positive change in the province’s healthcare system.

What is a nurse?
A nurse is someone who helps people feel better when they are sick or hurt. Nurses are kind, smart, and caring. They listen to patients, help with healing, and make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable.

What do nurses do in a nursing home?
In a nursing home, nurses take care of older adults who need extra help every day. They help with important check-ups, making sure everyone stays healthy and comfortable. Nurses also spend time with the residents, listening to their stories, sharing laughs, and bringing smiles to their faces. They are a very important part of making the nursing home feel like a happy and safe place to live.

National Nursing Week is celebrated annually in May. This week honors the important role nurses play in providing quality patient care. It is a weeklong celebration that provides an opportunity for nurses to reflect on their own professional development and recognize the contributions of their colleagues. Nurses are essential members of Canada’s healthcare workforce, providing care through every stage of life
