Celebrate the Solar Eclipse during Science Week!

The Centre of Excellence for Energy is pleased to offer two LIVE Read Aloud sessions for K-8 in English and en Français. Registered classes will receive a copy of Sun! One in a Billion / Moi , Le Soleil Unique Parmi les Milliards by Stacy McAnulty and Stevie Lewis. These sessions will be followed by a Question & Answer Session with a Special Guest Expert!

The English session for K-8 will occur on April 3rd from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. Click here to register!

There are only 100 spots each for English and French so don’t wait!

In addition to a copy of Sun! One in a Billion / Moi , Le Soleil Unique Parmi les Milliards, Teachers will receive unique learning resources and instructional materials as a follow-up activity for Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, and Grades 6-8.

Grade K-2: Our RAY-diant Sun / Notre soleil BRILLE-ant!

Learners will be given the opportunity to explore the relationship between the Sun and Earth, as well as discover how to be a solar detective!  Learners will make bracelets with solar beads and test out their effects when exposed to sunlight! A word wall will also be provided that goes along with the book.

Grade 3-5: Sun, Moon, and Shadows: The Solar Eclipse Quest / Soleil, Lune et Ombres : la quête de l’éclipse solaire

Learners will be given the opportunity to explore the relationships between the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth that creates a Solar Eclipse! Learners will use UV paper to make their predications and reveal their art when exposed to sunlight! A word wall will also be provided that goes along with the book.

Grade 6-8: Solar Eclipse Inquiry / Enquete de L’Eclipse Solaire

Learners will be given the opportunity to create a Solar Eclipse Viewer (Pinhole Projector) using readily available classroom materials and recycled cardboard boxes. Learning resources will include a word wall, KWL Chart, Procedural Writing Activity, Tic-Tac-Toe Reflection and a Final Reflection.
