Overview

The Centre of Excellence for Skilled Trades and Manufacturing is excited to bring you the experiential learning activity called McCain Pitch for Progress: Products, Technology & Sustainability for Middle School Learners.

McCain Pitch for Progress invites learners to step into the role of young innovators shaping the future of food and farming. Through this experience, students explore how McCain Foods develops new products, integrates advanced technology, and supports sustainable agricultural practices. They also examine real challenges affecting the food manufacturing and farming industry today – such as climate change, supply chain efficiency, soil health, food waste, and shifting consumer needs.

Learners will choose one of three topics to pitch to the experts:

  • Product Development: Propose a new potato product.
  • Technology Innovation: Propose a new technology or process.
  • Sustainability Solution: Propose an advancement in sustainable practices.

Working individually or in teams, learners identify a specific problem, develop an original solution, and prepare a compelling pitch for a panel of McCain experts. This experience will blend literacy interactions and representation, entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and critical thinking, problem-solving; and real industry innovation to improve farming practices and food manufacturing.

Important Note: This is a six -day participation activity.

Day 1 (Virtual Connect) – Learners will join McCain experts on Wednesday, March 11th at 9:00 am to hear about new products, innovative technology and sustainable practices within their industry, have a Q & A with the experts and be given the parameters of the pitch competition!

Day 2-4 (Work in Classroom) – Learners will use these days in class to brainstorm, organize, construct and prepare their pitch.

Day 5 (Virtual Connect) – Learners will reconnect on Wednesday, March 18th at 9:00 am OR 1:00 pm with industry experts for the pitch competition showcase. Classes will give their “Best Pitch” for one of the three categories to be eligible to WIN a class party courtesy of McCain and the Centre of Excellence for Skilled Trades and Manufacturing!
