Bring Hands-On Renewable Energy Learning to Your School!
The Centre of Excellence for Energy, in partnership with Relay Education and COVE, is offering engaging, hands-on renewable energy workshops for students in Grades 6–8.
Teachers and school administrators are invited to register their interest in hosting one or more of these programs. After the expression-of-interest form is submitted, a representative from the Centre of Excellence for Energy or one of our program partners will follow up to discuss availability and coordinate a potential school visit. Relay Education
Relay Education offers two distinct hands-on renewable energy programs:
Capture the Wind introduces students to wind energy through interactive experiments and STEM challenges. Students explore how wind can be transformed into electricity while developing teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Plug in the Sun introduces students to solar energy and the science behind generating electricity from sunlight. Through hands-on activities, students investigate real-world solar technologies and their role in a sustainable energy future.
Teachers may register their interest in hosting one or both programs.
Program highlights:
- Designed to support Grades 6–8 science and technology outcomes
- Facilitated by experienced educators from Relay Education
- Schools are asked to host three to four classes during the day
- All program materials are provided
- Schools need only provide an open classroom or lab space with access to a projector
COVE
Through OffshoreWind4Kids, students investigate how offshore wind energy works by designing, building and testing model floating wind turbines. This interactive workshop introduces renewable energy, engineering and marine technology while strengthening teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Program highlights:
- Designed to support Grades 6–8 science and technology outcomes
- Available for French Immersion classes
- Facilitated by experienced educators from COVE
- Schools are asked to host three to four classes during the day
- All program materials are provided
- Schools need only provide an open classroom or lab space with access to a projector
