Marketing 101

Overview

Marketing and Advertising need to work together to be successful. Marketing is everything it takes to get a product or service ready to sell and advertising is used to make our product or service known to our customers. This interactive learning activity provides students an opportunity to expand their vocabulary and enhance their financial literacy. The vocabulary terms and definitions are included below.

What you’ll need

  • Whiteboard
  • Bingo Markers
  • Marketing 101 Bingo Sheet (1 per learner)
  • Small prizes for winners (optional)
  • List of marketing terms for the bingo caller

Instructions

  1. Distribute bingo cards and markers or chips to each student. Each square on the bingo card should contain a marketing term.
  2. Explain the rules of traditional bingo; students listen to the bingo caller and mark the corresponding squares on their cards if the called term matches one on their card.
  3. The bingo caller randomly selects marketing terms and read out their definitions or explains the terms briefly.
  4. Students mark the terms on their cards if they match the definitions given by the bingo caller.
  5. The first student to complete a row, column, or diagonal shouts “Bingo!” and is the winner of that round.
  6. Encourage discussion and explanation: when a student shouts “Bingo,” ask them to explain the terms they marked to ensure understanding.
  7. Optionally, you can continue the game with multiple rounds, offering different prizes for each winner.

Extension ideas

  • The Bingo Caller reads the definition without saying the term, students have to connect the term to the definition and mark that spot on their bingo card.
