Overview

Five fictional read-aloud books and classroom activities that weave elements of foods, nutrition and cooking along with cross-curricular learning connections!

These books have been developed by the team of Registered Dietitians at Dairy Farmers of Canada. They strive to make food and nutrition education fun and engaging. They provide credible, evidence-based information about all types of foods. Their mission is to nurture a love of food through learning!

Curriculum Outcomes

Exploration Time K-2 

  • Strand: Well-Being – Big Idea: Physical Health and Active Participation – Skill Descriptor: Define personal safety and healthy practices.

Personal Wellness 3-5

  • Strand: Wellness – Big Idea: Healthy Lifestyle – Skill Descriptor: Explore personal health habits that contribute to wellness.

English Language Arts K-2

Career Connections

Identify the different careers within each read aloud.  Discuss: “If I have a passion for nutrition and health, what careers might I consider?”  (dietitian, chef, personal support worker, physical trainer, etc.)  Look for people in your community who are already in these fields of work.
