A Celebration of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

Natalia Fana, Tori Nelson, Anu Jose, and Maggie Pickard

About

Did you know that, in 2016, women made up only 34% of STEM bachelor’s degree holders and 23% of science and technology workers among Canadians aged 25 to 64? This shortage of representation has negative impacts on the financial well-being of women, but also on the broader innovation continuum, as research shows that greater diversity strengthens performance and our economy.

The COE for Heath was thrilled to partner with IMPART IMPART – Dalhousie Medicine NB Research Team to help celebrate International Women’s Day on March 4th, 2022.

This two-hour event presentation begins with research presentations from some of the incredible women trainees in the IMPART network. Join Natalia Fana, Tori Nelson, Anu Jose, and Maggie Pickard for a round of short presentations on their current research. Following these presentations, IMPART hosted a panel with Dr. Sarah Gander, Dr. Shreya Sarkar, Dr. Brittany Edgett, and Dr. Sowmya Somanath who will share their thoughts on pursuing STEM careers, what makes them passionate about their work, and what advice they have for other women interested in STEM education.
