LTC Week-The role of a Rehabilitation Assistant and Activity Coordinator in Long Term Care

Nicole Stewart & Emily Wright

About

This presentation will focus on the roles of a Rehabilitation Assistant and Activity Coordinator within a Nursing Home.  These positions play a positive role with residents by engaging in social, physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual care needs, and ensuring that residents have the equipment and measures in place to keep them comfortable and safe.  Both roles work within an interdisciplinary care team, to ensure residents are provided with the person-centred care approach.

Nicole Stewart has been a certified Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Assistant, since 2011. Nicole’s focus and expertise is fitting residents to a specifically designed wheelchair.  There are so many options available, and ensuring a resident is most comfortable and safe when being placed into a wheelchair is her top priority.

Emily Wright has been a certified Therapeutic Recreation Professional, since 2019.  Her primary background was within the role of a Personal Support Worker.  Emily’s area of expertise is building relationships and connections with the residents to enhance their social engagement.
