In 2011, a group of anglers created a tournament to feature and promote kayak/canoe fishing in the province of New Brunswick. In 2016, Bryan Cawthra stepped in as the organizer, and since taking over that tournament has expanded to as much as 10 different tournaments all over the province creating a multi-tournament series.
Bryan sets out to create the ultimate platform to showcase the bountiful species of fish to be caught and released in New Brunswick, Canada. Not only did the 2017 series accomplish this, with the winner catching and releasing 16 different species, but it created an unforgettable experience for the hundreds of fishing enthusiasts and competitors of all ages who were there to be a part of it. In 2020, the New Brunswick Paddlers Fishing Series rebranded under a new name Hook & Paddle, which also created a 4 part TV mini-series and a 9-episode television show for Sportsman Outdoor Channel and World Fishing Network.
As an avid tournament angler, event producer, and media personality, Bryan is confident beyond a doubt that the Hook & Paddle Series has set the standard in Canada for what a multi-species, catch-photo-release series was intended to be. As this rapidly growing sport continues to strive, we will continue to push the limits and abilities of any angler who enters to claim the Top Spot as the Hook & Paddle Series Champion.
