OVERVIEW

MAP Strategic Workforce Services Inc. (MAPSWS) is an industry-led non-profit dedicated to creating welcoming, inclusive, and diverse workplaces in New Brunswick’s skilled trades industries through effective mentorship training, project management and HR promising practices.  Existing since 2013, MAPSWS offers four services: NB Mentor Apprentice Program (NBMAP), New Boots, First in Trades (FIT) and Skilled trades Exploration Program (STEP).

New Boots: Progressing Women in Trades is the provincial network and resource hub for New Brunswick that does all things to promote, support and mentor girls and women+ pursuing skilled trades career pathways. We do a lot of promotional work to also show role model tradeswomen to youth of NB, both girls and boys.  The goal is to increase the numbers of girls and women who will pursue a career in the skilled trades and support them at all levels, as well as their employers. From helping girls and women explore and choose which trades they would like to pursue, to supporting them during the apprenticeship pathway to be successful with their certification and far beyond when they become journeywomen with promotion and mentorship opportunities, as well as networking and professional development opportunities.

Annually, we do network regional gatherings across the province to allow tradeswomen+ to meet and build lasting relationships, we offer a tool allowance to our apprentices’ members to break down financial barriers, we offer multiple $1000 scholarships to women+ pursuing pre-employment programs in NB, we sponsor our members to attend national conference and training, we produce a Tradeswomen of NB coloring book, and so much more! Our team is composed of tradeswomen, educators, guidance counselor, immigration expertise, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
