Neil Squire and LDANB are hosting an information session for parents on assistive technology! During the session the team from Neil Squire will review the most commonly used and accessible AT for students. Please click here to register!

Assistive technology (AT) refers to any product, device, or system that helps people with disabilities or special needs to perform tasks that might otherwise be difficult or impossible. AT can range from low-tech solutions like magnifying glasses and hearing aids to high-tech tools like screen readers and voice recognition software.

Many operating systems and applications have built-in features that can make them more accessible and user-friendly for people with different needs. For example, Windows and iOS offer various settings and options to adjust the display, sound, keyboard, mouse, and touch input to suit individual preferences and abilities. Office 365 also provides a number of accessibility tools and features, such as the Accessibility Checker, the Immersive Reader, the Dictate function, and the Learning Tools, that can help users create, communicate, and collaborate more effectively.

In this session, you will learn about the benefits and types of assistive technology, how to access and use the built-in features in Windows, iOS, and Office 365, and how to support your students in using them. You will also get a chance to ask questions and share your experiences with other parents and educators. This session is designed to help you empower your students with assistive technology and enhance their learning outcomes.
