Has anything online ever made you think, “Wait… what?” Canada’s 20th annual Media Literacy Week, from October 27-31, is here to answer your questions about being online in changing times. The COE-DI is thrilled to partner with MediaSmarts, Canada’s leading centre for digital media literacy, on Media Literacy Week 2025!
On Oct. 28th, we hosted sessions on how to Break the Fake for grades 3-5 (9 am) and grade 6-8 (11 am). Students learned strategies for recognizing online misinformation, verifying what they see, tested their skills against AI-generated media, and explored the importance of media literacy for their futures.
All participants will receive a toolkit of activities to complete over the week. Topics covered in the toolkit include:
- algorithms
- artificial intelligence
- digital citizenship
- critical thinking
- online safety and privacy
- recognizing misinformation and emotional appeals
