GRADE 6 Teacher’s Kit: Building Awareness of Climate Sensitive Infectious Diseases in Canada

Overview

The Canadian Public Health Association, in consultation with experts in health research, climate change, and education, has created the Grade 6 Teacher’s Kit to provide students with an enriching learning experience. It will allow students to develop an understanding of how climate change is influencing the spread of infectious diseases in Canada, and learn prevention strategies that will protect them from climate-sensitive infectious diseases.

Grade 6 Curriculum Outcomes

Science – Learning and Living Sustainably. 

Apply scientific and technological knowledge and an understanding of sustainable practices responsibly with respect to natural and technical sensory systems.

Mathematics – Statistics and Probability

  • Collect data.
  •  Justify elements and compare graphs to solve problems.

Social Studies – Geography

Investigate the physical features and weather patterns of the Atlantic region.

Language arts –  Composition

  • Create a variety of texts with purpose and understand the influence of the writer/creator.
  • Select an appropriate form and use an engaging introduction that includes the purpose.
  •  Include interesting and/or domain-specific words and phrases to convey and enhance meaning.
  • Demonstrate correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar usage.
