Cette ressource éducative a été conçue pour soutenir les élèves de français langue seconde de la 6e -12e année, dans l’exploration de l’industrie touristique au Nouveau-Brunswick et les enjeux de durabilités. Elle propose quatre activités d’apprentissage et une opportunité d’apprentissage par l’expérience, qui renforcent les compétences globales et littéraires en français.

Overview

This educational resource has been designed to support French as a Second Language students in grades 6-12, in exploring the importance of the tourism industry in New Brunswick and relevant sustainability issues. It offers four learning activities and a culminating experiential learning opportunity, which reinforces global competencies and French language skills. While improving their French language skills in an authentic context, students will discover the key aspects of sustainable tourism and apply these concepts to the local industry in a culminating experiential learning project.

Instructions

  1. Follow along with the activities outlined in Le Tourisme Durable pour un avenir meilleur resource package.
  2. Activity #1: Students learn about the tourism industry; the 3 main domains of the industry, associated careers and the industry’s key role in New Brunswick’s future prosperity. Includes a role-playing activity to engage learners in realistic and authentic communication.
  3. Activity #2 (optional): Students research various tourist destinations across the province and collaborate on a digital mapping project to showcase some of the best experiences New Brunswick has to offer.   4. Activity #3: Students deepen their understanding of the concept of sustainable tourism, while strengthening their French language skills. Includes literacy worksheets and ideas.
  5. Activity #4: Students explore various sustainable tourism practices that align with the UN’s global sustainable development goals and demonstrate how they can apply this new understanding with an action-oriented role-playing scenario that requires them to act as Sustainable Tourism Consultants.
  6. Learners are now ready for the culminating experiential learning activity linked to Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick’s (TIANB) Sustainability in Tourism contest: We want to know how operators and tourists are acting on and promoting sustainability. You can help by participating in the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick’s (TIANB’s) Sustainability in Tourism Contest, in partnership with Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD). We want to learn from you. In a project of your choice, introduce us to an operator or a tourist destination in your community. Explore in your project how tourism in New Brunswick supports the Sustainable Development Goals and support NB to be a thriving destination. We look forward to and value your perspective.
