Overview

In this dynamic activity, students will embark on a digital scavenger hunt using a computer, tablet, or smartphone to scan QR codes that unlock quick, captivating videos from real energy industry experts—offering a firsthand look into their careers and the exciting opportunities waiting in the world of energy. The videos come from Electricity Human Resources Canada’s (EHRC) Greening a Generation playlist and the Centre of Excellence for Energy Speaker Series, showcasing diverse voices from across Canada’s energy sector.

  • Printed or digital QR Code “Career Exploration Sheets”

Instructions

  1. Introduction
    • Begin with a brief discussion on the role of energy in our lives and the kinds of careers known in this sector.
  2. Career Exploration
    • Using the QR codes and links provided on the Career Exploration sheets ask students to engage with explore the videos of the desired amount of career videos. Each video is about a minute in length.
    • While watching the Video have the students fill in a “Career Profile Sheet” for each video.
  3. Synthesis of Knowledge
    • Ask the learners to pick one career and create a short pitch explaining why it may be a good fit for them and why it is important for the energy transition.
  4. Class Discussion or Presentation
    • Ask students to present their selected career to the class.
    • Facilitate a discussion on how different roles contribute to Canada’s energy future.
