Where do doctors get their answers? Recorded Webinar

Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12
Subjects: Personal Wellness

Overview:

Medical laboratory technologists (MLT) and medical laboratory assistants (MLA) play a crucial role in patient care.  It’s estimated that about 75% of all decisions made by the doctor are based on results from the lab.  Want to see if there’s a urinary tract infection?  That’s MLTs and MLAs!  Looking for blood sugar levels?  MLTs and MLAs again!  How about checking tissue for cancer?  Yep, the lab!  What about determining if a patient has influenza, or covid?  You guessed it – the lab!

Join Rachel Colpits from NBCC in a recorded webinar session as she discusses the role and responsibilities of a medical lab technologist. Students will learn about lab technician patient care, the importance of lab test results, and hear about a typical day as a medical lab technologist.

New Brunswick Community College is a learner-focused community that emphasizes getting students the skills they need to do the job they are studying for.  NBCC offers a number of programs for great careers (including MLT/MLA and other healthcare professions), and has campuses in Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton, Miramichi, St. Andrews, and Woodstock, all with different program offerings.  Opportunities for academic upgrades, single classes, and micro-credential courses also exist!  Students can check it out by going to NBCC.ca.
