Mindfulness and Breath Techniques, students can do at their desk!

Kathy Szo and Daneen Dymond

About

During this 30-minute session, students and teachers will learn the meaning of mindfulness and why it is useful to learn and practice in the classroom.

Students and teachers will learn how to regulate their breathing when they become anxious or overwhelmed – these techniques will help them be mindful by focusing on the present moment. Students will learn mindfulness breathing using the “BEE Breath, Ocean Breathing, Bear breathe, and the 5-star breathing technique.

Kathy and Daneen will provide a 30-minute lesson that will include fun interactive ways to teach and practice mindfulness while students stay at their desks (sitting and standing).

Kathy Szo is one of the teachers who contributed to the K-5 Mindfulness Teacher resource kit created by the COE for Health and is now posted on the COE website.  The Resource Kit has 8 beautiful mindfulness lessons for teachers and students to use in their classrooms and outside in nature.
